UEFN lets you build Fortnite islands, and Verse is the code that makes your devices react. SentryEdit helps with that code. Below are 4 tasks, each with its tools and its review step, so you can see every change in your project folder before you accept it.
You placed a button device and an item granter on your island and need code that connects them. SentryEdit runs list_dir and grep on your project folder, finds 2 existing .verse files, then uses write_file to create reward_button.verse with two @editable fields and a Subscribe call. Ask first shows the diff. You approve it. Then you build from the Verse menu in Epic's editor and press the button in a live edit session.
list_dir project folder → 6 files
grep "creative_device" → 2 matches
write_file reward_button.verse → +18 lines
read_file reward_button.verse → 18 linesYou save a screenshot of a Verse build error from Epic's editor into your project folder. SentryEdit runs ocr on it, then uses grep and read_file to find the matching line. Beginners often ask how to compare two objects, such as props, and check that they are equal in Fortnite Verse, so the agent explains the complaint first. It proposes one edit_file change. Check the 1-line diff against Epic's documentation, rebuild and test.
ocr build_error.png → 1 error
grep "Prop" → 3 matches
read_file props_check.verse → 24 lines
edit_file props_check.verse → +1 -1A project with 9 loose .verse files gets hard to read. In Plan only mode SentryEdit uses glob to list them and task to start 3 sub-agents that each report what one group of files does, then it writes a plan and changes nothing. If you like the plan, switch to Ask first and let move_file apply it step by step. You approve each move. Afterwards build the project to confirm that nothing broke.
Before you publish through the Creator Portal, take a last look at your code. A skill stores that checklist as a reusable playbook. SentryEdit then runs grep for Print( across 12 files, lists every match with its line number, and lets you pick which lines edit_file removes. Publishing stays your step. Epic's Island Creator Rules still apply, so read them, review the diff, rebuild and test once more in a live edit session.
A typical chat assistant only describes the work. SentryEdit 2.9.22 does the work. It runs the tools on your Windows PC and shows each result as a card in the chat.
| Typical chat assistant | SentryEdit | |
|---|---|---|
| Action | Describes steps and leaves the work to you. | Edits and checks files itself, one card per result. |
| Your files | Works from code you paste into the chat. | Works inside the chat's working folder, on your own files. |
| Control | Gives you text with no approval step. | Ask first pauses before changes; Plan only changes nothing. |
| Privacy | Usually sends your chat to a hosted service. | Runs locally, no telemetry; prompts go only to your chosen model. |
It is for creators who build islands in Unreal Editor for Fortnite and want help with the Verse code behind their devices. You describe a change in plain words, and SentryEdit edits the .verse files in your project folder. You decide.
Hobby creators who test a Fortnite island in a live session with a friend can ask SentryEdit to explain a UEFN Verse file. Beginners are welcome. Nobody starts with 100 lines of working code.
Solo creators who publish through the Creator Portal can use it as a second pair of eyes before each release. Ask it to scan for unused fields. You read the report.
Unreal Editor for Fortnite is Epic's PC tool for building islands. It launched in March 2023. Its gameplay code is written in Verse, and SentryEdit is a separate app that edits those .verse files outside the editor.
Fortnite Creative is the in-game mode where you place devices without writing code. The PC editor is where you can also write Verse, which is Epic's programming language for the gameplay logic of your island. Both build islands.
Yes. This is the official SentryEdit website, and the download here is the original build, so you can compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published manifest. For support, use the Send feedback button inside the app.
No. Generated Verse can contain mistakes, so review every diff carefully and test the result on your island before you share it with anyone. Ask first pauses before each change.
An island code is created when you publish your island through Epic's Creator Portal, and you must follow Epic's Island Creator Rules first. SentryEdit never publishes for you. You do that step yourself.
Yes. You can connect a cloud AI provider through a standard API endpoint, a model running locally on your PC, or the built-in model. With a local model, nothing leaves your machine.
No. SentryEdit runs locally with no telemetry, and your chats, working folders and API keys all stay on your PC, not on a remote server. Prompts go only to the model endpoint you pick.
Version 2.9.22 runs on Windows 10 and 11. Setup is about 34 MB. Point SentryEdit at your own island project, review each diff before you decide what to keep, and test in a live edit session.
